KUDAPOKER Generally, a pot is won by the player with the highest hand in the game. However, in some games the pot may be divided between the best hands, the lowest hand, or both. The rules for the type of poker game play differ from country to country, with different numbers of cards used in each game, the number of betting rounds, and the number of players involved.

In the simplest form of poker, the dealer deals each player five cards, facedown. In some games, the first dealer is the player who receives the jack. The remaining players then deal their own five cards, clockwise around the table.

Once the cards are dealt, a betting round is played, usually in a single round. During this round, all but one player must fold. The rest of the players must match the bet or raise. If no player calls, the bet is placed in the pot. If no players call, a showdown occurs, at which the winner is determined. If more than one player is still in contention, more than one betting round is required. In a pot-limit game, the maximum amount of the bet is fixed.

The cards are dealt from the deck in a series of pre-arranged face-down and face-up rounds. Each player is allowed to discard three cards, but must show their cards at the end of each round. When the last player’s hand is revealed, the showdown is over. A final betting round is then played to determine the winner.

During the second betting round, each player has the option of drawing new cards from the top of the deck. The player who draws cards has a choice of putting in a “chip” equal to the total bet made by the last bettor, or “standing pat.” When a player draws, the player must pay a fee called the ante, and must also place the ante in the pot. If the player is unable to make the ante, he may choose to shuffle his cards and discard them. If he does not shuffle, he is said to be “into the pot.”

During the fourth and final betting round, the dealer deals the cards to each player. This is the last time a dealer is allowed to shuffle. A round disc, called the buck, is positioned at the top of the deck, and the nominal dealer is the player who received the jack.

When the final betting round is over, the player with the best hand in the game takes the pot. The lowest possible hand is a pair of aces, 6-4-3-2-A, or a straight. The highest possible hand is five of a kind, which beats a flush. In some games, a wild card can also be used to make a five of a kind. The ace may be considered the lowest card in some games. In some variations, the ace is regarded as the lowest card, and the straight is not taken into account.
